6-8

Measure, mix, shake, scoop, and sift! This week we will experiment with sand, clay, slime, and we might just throw some mud in for a bit of extra messy fun! We will analyze what makes these materials move, react, and become fun to play with. Create art as well as science experiments learning about neonewtonian fluids, silica, and pigments. Explore ingredients and how they change the make up of materials you start out with. Build containers and tools to extrude, stretch and contain your mixtures.

This will be a fun way to celebrate the end of summer 2026!

Mini Golf is fun for all, especially when you get to design your own courses, clubs, and strategies. Learn skills from an experienced golfer, like: from how to hold a putter, have an effective stance and stroke, what makes a fun mini golf experience. You will pick up techniques and terms along with how to build a fun course with your friends.
Campers will plan,  design, and build their own putters, mini golf courses with hurdles and themes,  and play with fellow campers each day. The entire week will focus on experiencing new challenges and gaining mini gold ability.
Make golf centric launcher games with your own table top course to take home as well as your own set of putters and a bag to carry them in.

The week will culminate in a course to remember and enjoy!

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away… With those simple words, an entire universe was born. On May 25, 1977, a revolution began.
Join us as we draw from this fantastical universe and imagine the tools needed to travel and explore the great beyond. Construct a custom spacecraft to launch under model rocket power. Design and build a model spacecraft to be cherished and displayed for years to come. Build a robot companion to help you navigate the stars. Work with others to build a monumental space station that will stay on our site and be enjoyed by all.

OR
"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." Those words launched a movie that became a phenomenon and a pioneer not just in movie making techniques but also in toys. Imaginations were sparked and toys helped transport fans to this far away galaxy. Recreate the most recent world of Star Wars...miniaturized.
The history of Star Wars has a long list of legend and lore.  Create a world of renowned Star Wars originals along with celebrating the May 2026 release,  “The Mandalorian & Grogu.”  Campers will be able to experience an immersive week among the stars!

As America began to concentrate work and people in cities in the 19th Century, thoughtful educators and organizations advocated reconnecting children (and adults) with nature. We organized parks and camps where the air was fresher, schedules could be more relaxed, and learning could be spontaneous. This Workshop explores the treasures of East Rock Park and the art of exploring. Construct meeting and play structures. Watch birds and bugs and turtles. Discover the power of quiet watching. Listen to birds and bugs, water, and the wind. Act out stories. Wade and climb. Build and float boats. Sculpt with sticks and vines, socks, and mud. Act out stories, but mostly choose paths and adventures to explore.

How do you make a robot? With a  box of course!

Make a robot pet. Start with a small box. With scissors and tape, paper and wood scraps, add legs and wheels. Add ears, eyes, and a tail. Add a collar. And a name tag. A good beginning – it needs a name.

Now, start with a box big enough to climb into. Cut a screen for seeing, add  noisemakers or lights for signaling. Invent tools and toys for your robot and continue on from there...

Inspired by Antoinette Poris' Not a Box 2007. A story of thinking inside and outside of boxes.

Airports are often fast paced places filled with people coming and going. What’s happening behind the scenes at the airport? What goes into getting passengers and their belongings from Point A to Point B? Campers will build many of the things that make the airport run smoothly.  We will build a luggage trolley, control tower, and of course, a jet plane! Campers will use tools and materials to build components of an airport that are necessary for a smooth trip. Our week will be filled with imaginative play as we dream up places to go and all the things that we will see along the way.

When you walk in the woods, you know that birds and animals nest and burrow there. It is also easy to imagine other creatures who live there tending to the flowers and community. In fact, this instinct to imagine that elves, gnomes, and fairies build homes hidden among the trees is an ancient one.

Construct and clothe a family of fairies, elves, or gnomes. Build a home for your magical friends. Use bark, rocks, feathers, acorn caps, sticks, and vines to make your home comfortable and well-hidden in any wood lot or backyard. (All the materials will be durable in any weather — well-suited for the outdoors.)

Consult the considerable literature on woodland architecture and craft. Learn new techniques and tools. Add a garden and well to your house and perhaps a boat to add to the adventure.

Mud week has become a beloved tradition here at EWMW. This week we will honor Mud beginning on Monday, June 29, 202 which is International Mud Day! This camp celebrates a material that is often overlooked. Heighten the senses, and stimulate creativity with its bountiful possibilities. Invent, play, pretend, and experiment outdoors with mud.

The Naturalist Charles Darwin introduced his children to science and the world by having them observe the habits and travels of bees. Bees can be impressive architects, remarkable chemists, industrious farmers, and disciplined community workers. Their history is more ancient than dinosaurs. They appear in myths and folktales. They are essential to our planet's future.

While learning all about the wonder of bees, explore what bees need and love most. How do their colonies work? What role can we play to help them survive? Build projects that help learn more about these buzzy creatures all around us!

Put on your hardhat and journey to the construction site! Build the essential machines: diggers, dump trucks, cranes, and more. You will need these to erect the I-beam structure of a building. Test out all the creations and experience how hard work comes together to build strong buildings and lasting friendships.

Please note: This 4 Day Camp, there is no camp on Friday.
