Dexterity

Towers of Hanoi is challenging and engaging for all ages. Once students have built and decorated their game, they will discover that beneath the joy of Towers of Hanoi is an algorithm. You don't need to know this mathematical formula to play, but if you do know it, you can predict how many moves it would take to solve it for any number of discs you are playing with. We will teach students the rules, and they will take time to master their moves and even play against themselves and do timed play alongside friends.

Rebound is a fun strategy game that students will build, design, and decorate. Students create their own scoring system while learning what happens when you manage the strength of your fingers and the angles of flicking the puck with speed and motion that earn the winning points.

Pigs in Clover is a marble maze toy that gained popularity in the United States during the 19th century. During this workshop, we reintroduce this game, allowing students to design and build their own version. We introduce students to the necessary components to create the Pigs in Clover game.

To introduce an element of design, alterations and personalization are encouraged. Using dowels, markers, rubber bands, and marbles, students will design a unique version of this classic game.  Students will combine storytelling and illustration to bring their game to life while asking themselves what factors make a game engaging.

Imagine, build, and play while learning the use of force, motion, and design.

The classic game of Twister is a tried and true family favorite. Our handheld Finger Twister is all about the luck of the spin and your finger flexibility. Construct a one-of-a-kind game board. Not only does this program teach dexterity through play, but it is also a training program that introduces students to screws, color, and planning.

This is a great game to bring on a road trip or play at home or with friends.

Build a classic toy train, modeled after the toys children enjoyed in earlier years. These trains last a lifetime, and make for the perfect toy to be played with for years! With endless decorating possibilities, this toy train introduces children to the fundamentals of building and crafting with wood.

The parts of this project are all produced and cut by our team of apprentices, who are 13-18 years old. Apprentices train in all aspects of design, production, and education. Learn more about the Apprentice Program HERE.

This program includes two games. Please select two from the list below.

Dexterity games are found in every culture and tradition. They teach your brain and hands to work as a team. Understand the math and story behind the game, and then play and enjoy. Choose among four different kinds of games. Games to play by yourself or with/against a partner/competitor. Beneath the joy of Towers of Hanoi is an algorithm (a mathematical formula) which you don't need to know to play, but if you do know it, you can predict how many moves it would take to solve it for any number of discs you are playing with. You would be beginning to understand Code. Rebound is about feedback in your fingers and just how hard you have to flick the puck to land where you want it to land. Finger Twister is all about the luck of the spin and your finger flexibility.
