New Haven by Water: The Paddlewheel Boat

Robert Fulton’s steamboat, Clermont, launched in 1807, changed travel along the coast of Long Island Sound and the rest of the United States. Chartered in 1822, the New Haven Steamboat Company began steamboat service between New Haven and New York City until the early 1900s. Join us and construct a twin wheel paddle boat. Connect your boat to paddle wheels and power them by rubber band. Build passengers,  crew, and cargo from a bygone era. Float and run them at the end of the day in our water lab.
