Magic was one of A.C. Gilbert’s first loves. As a student at Yale, he earned money by performing magic shows. When he finished his medical degree in 1909, he decided not to become a doctor and instead set up Mysto Manufacturing, a company making magic sets.
Mysto’s name was changed to the A.C. Gilbert Company in 1916, and they continued to make magic sets alongside their other products. They also made Puzzle Sets, which were tricks and brainteasers related to the Magic Sets.
