Vacation Program

  • Friday, December 27, 2013
  • 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
  • Designed for ages 6 to 12

These are some books we admired on the 2013 Best Books for Young Readers lists. (Some were published in 2012.) Each book suggests something interesting to explore. When you come to class, you will select two project workshops. We will read part of the book and explore the world it describes in artful experiments. Our suggestion: choose one topic that you know you will like; and one that seems completely new. The projects, but not the books, are included in the tuition. Any of these books might be a great gift.

Doctor Who: Character Encyclopedia
Create Sculpy characters that have filled the Time Traveller's world for 50 years…(whose original alien characters always looked like they were made of Sculpy anyway.)

Journey by Aaron Becker.
Follow the advice of this beautifully illustrated tale: build a door that takes you from the everyday and ordinary world to a world invented by your imagination.

One Cool Friend by Toni Buzzeo. Illus. by David Small.
Build a wooden wobbling pet penguin so much more sensible than the purloined penguin in this funny tale.

Electric Ben: The Amazing Life and Times of Benjamin Franklin by Robert Byrd.
Master static electricity experiments that sparked Ben Franklin's imagination 250 years ago.

The LEGO Idea Book by Daniel Lipkowitz.
Our LEGO artists help you master challenging new tricks.

Giant Squid: Searching for a Giant Sea Monster by Mary Curullo
Create a tiny squid and the tools the Smithsonian used to track this mysterious creature.
Make your own sea monster friends.

The projects, but not the books, are included in the tuition. Any of these books might be a great gift.
