August 16th: on this day, the neighborhoods of Siena, Italy, will celebrate their long histories and rivalries. Choose your ward and your district. Construct and clothe a knight in its colors and costume. Learn the ward's legends and its trade. Make its flag and flag carrier, its Museum and the horse that will compete in a race that has been run since the middle ages. On August 19th, the class will create a grand Plaza, stage a colorful procession, and run, in small scale, a horse race* in one of the world's longest traditions.
*Wooden horses only. The Eli Whitney Museum does not endorse real horse racing, or horse-play.
