Leonardo lived in unsettled times. Conflicts divided the Italian states, the Italians from the French, Italians from the peoples of the East. Princes commissioned Leonardo to invent castles for safety and weapons to siege the fortresses of others. The age of gunpowder was young. Leonardo draws cannons that belong to the future. Construct a mortar that will gently loft a marble at the walls and gate and towers that you will construct for testing. Discover how Leonardo concludes that it it better be be the engineer than the general.
