On Martin Luther King's Day, celebrate bold journeys. Learn the legacy of Hatshepsut, the queen who ruled Egypt 3500 years ago. Construct a model of her trading ships, built to be carried from the Nile to the Red Sea and then to sail to the mysterious land of Punt. Reconstruct their cargo: ebony, ivory, myrrh, perfume, exotic animals and plants. Honor a life remembered for triumphs won in trade, not battles. To honor Dr. King, the Museum will contribute 10% of the tuition to IRIS (International Refugee Integrated Services) whose programs serve families that have made brave journeys to New Haven from Africa and other parts of the world in turmoil.
