2011 Summer Program

In 1816, the young but worldly Mary Godwin (who would soon marry the poet Percy Shelley) began one of the first works of science fiction. She portrays the tragedy of Victor Frankenstein's experiments gone wrong. It is a time of important discoveries in electricity…though these are more visible in the films that will be made a century later than in Mary Shelley's novel. Recreate the experiments that were exciting imaginations (and fears) in 1816. Build a safe spark generator. Construct (a friendly) creature whose limbs electricity will move. Study the advances of 1816 which have produced more progress than regret and which hold promise for the future. (We will avoid scary images.)
Batteries included (and batteries constructed.)
