130 years ago, New Haveners made a lasting commitment to the rocks and woods that border the Workshop. They created East Rock Park for its citizens and for the wildlife that visit and live in, on, and around the river. Over 200 species of birds can be spotted by the astute observer. Some of those birds migrate thousands of miles, connecting our Park to the forests and rivers of South America.

Get to know the birds of East Rock Park, Create a Fandex*, an artful tool for organizing facts and images to identify 6 of the Park's elegant bird families. Weather permitting, explore their habitats in the Park. Build a bird feeder. Or perhaps compare different bird beaks based on their food sources. Plant bulbs that will welcome the birds' return next Spring.

*with permission of the Fandex's designer, Eric Epstein.
