For Families

A young astronaut lands on Mars to search for signs of life but is comically unaware of the Martian following him on his explorations. An introduction to the kind of book where the reader knows more information than the main character does. Jon Agee's Life on Mars is a treasure.

Build your own rocket ship and the astronaut who adventures to worlds unknown. Perhaps you are the Martian?

We are accustomed to teaching with a model in front of a child, but these instructions should make it so that anyone can build one without our presence. We urge that parents and teachers be there to guide – but to allow the child to try to let the materials (and a picture of the final product) guide them. A wrong direction is always un-doable until you've glued something.

The Parts.

Step 1. Fit the 2 sides of the rocket ship together. Put the pipecleaner 'arms' through the hole in the little astronaut.

Step 2. Fit the slot of the third piece into the slot in the rocket ship so that it can stand up on the 'fins'. This holds it together without glue. Now, Decorate your rocket ship and the little astronaut.
