2009 Summer Program

Three hundred seventy years ago, (150 years before Eli Whitney arrived), New Haven's Puritan settler built their first grain mill on the Museum's site. For most of history, bread was baked in every neighborhood, every day. And in much of the world, it still is. Construct model bread ovens, explore traditions, bake breads from Ethiopia, Italy, India, Mexico and Iceland. Grind wheat, rye, and corn. Discover the differences in local agriculture and customs that give the world its rich flavor.
