What makes an image unique, and interesting to look at? How do you grab the viewer's eye, so you can be sure they see what you want them to see?

The answers to these questions are not as simple as you may think. There are many ways to tell a story with a picture, whether for art or advertising. Design is the process of choosing the best way to present your work so that people understand your message.

In this class, we will be "photoshopping" with PixelMator, a powerful and affordable photo editor similar to Adobe Photoshop, to create interesting works of digital art. You will learn to edit and embellish photographs; apply filters and add crisp, scalable "vector" graphics. You can create convincing illusions by inserting yourself into historical photographs or advertisements, design your own "brand" logo from scratch, or create a poster for your favorite movie!

Images will be provided, or can be downloaded from web during class. Self-portraits can also be taken in class using the built-in "FaceTime" cameras on our lab computers. Or you can bring your own images on a USB flash drive.

You will take your final edits home on a CD or on your own flash drive.
