Gilbert's name appears on 152 patents. Some reflect his personal work. Most recognize the contributions of his coworkers. A dozen representative patents are available below. Visit the Museum for a complete exploration of Gilbert's inventiveness.

1. Toy construction blocks comprising strips having inwardly turned flanges said strips provided at opposite ends with perforations, combined with U-shaped coupling-pieces having perforations adapted to aline with the perforations in the 3trips, and bolts adapted to extend through the strips and coupling-pieces, whereby four strips may be connected with a coupling piece.

2. Toy construction blocks comprising strips having Inwardly turned flanges said strips provided at opposite ends with perforations, combined with U-shaped coupling-pieces having perforations adapted to aline with perforations in two of the strips, bolts adapted to pass through two of the strips and the coupling-piece between them, and a U-shaped clip adapted to be engaged with the free end of the bolt whereby several strips are interlocked.

3. Toy construction blocks comprising strips of sheet metal formed with inwardly turned edges and provided at opposite ends with perforations. U-shaped coupling-pieces around which four strips may be placed, means for interlocking said strips with the coupling-piece, and an angle iron adapted to connect two or more blocks

1. In a commutator, the combination of a disk of insulating material having radial tongues and conductor segments having slots through which said tongues are inserted; substantially as described.

2. In a commutator, a pair of end disks having radial tongues, segments having slots fitting over said tontines, and means for preventing ourward movement of the segments relatively to the tongues; substantially as described.

3. In a commutator, a plurality of partly cylindrical segments, each having a transverse slot adjacent one end thereof, a pair of disks of insulating material having radial. extending tongues, each segment having the slots thereof engaged by tongues of the respective disks, said tongues extending completely through said slots; substantially as described.

4. In a commutator, the combination of an insulating disk having a radial tongue, said tongue having a lateral notch, and a segment having a slot whereby it is fitted over said tongue, the metal of said segment being displaced longitudinally of the segment so as to extend into said notch and interlock therewith; substantially as described.

1. The combination with a toy motor having side plates and a shaft Journaled in said side plates, of gear box side plates detachably applied to the respective motor side plates outside of the latter plates, a shaft Journaled in eald gear box side plates, and means for driving said shaft from the motor shaft; substantially as described.

2. The combination with a toy motor having side plates, - of a gear box having side members detaehably applied to the respective side plates outside of said plates; substantially as described.

3. The combination with a toy electric motor having side plates, of a gear box having separate side plates applied to the respective side-plates of the motor; substantally as described.

4. The combination with a toy electric motor having side plates, of a pair of plates detachably applied to the outside of the motor side plates, said pair of plates of greater height than the motor and having a plurality of shaft bearings therein; substantially as described.

5. The combination with a toy motor having outstanding base lugs, of a gear box resting on and detaehably connected with said base lugs; substantially as described.
[Claims 6 to 25 not printed in the Gazette.]

1. In a toy wheel, a pair of sheet metal disks having registering openings therein, and a hollow sheet metal hub having lugs passing through and clenched in said openings and having an end wall spaced from said lugs; substantially as described.

4. The combination of a body member comprising a pair of disk-like members, each having a perforation formed centrally therethrough, and a sheet metal hub having projections passing through the disk members for securing the hub and disk members rigidly together, sald hub having a wall at its outer end with a perforation therein last-named perforation being in line with and laterally spaced from the perforations in the disk members, the interior, of said hub presenting a passage larger than said perforations, and the side wall of the hub being provided intermediate said perforations with a threaded socket for a clamping screw; substantially as described.
[Claims 2 and 3 not printed in the Gazette.]

1. A reversing switch comprising a plate of insulating material having spaced conductors secured to one face thereof and positioned to form the four sides of a quadrangle, said conductors comprising metal strips having the ends thereof extending through said plate and bent into clamping engagementg therewith, and means pivoted upon said plate to cooperate with said conductors.
